The Browns on Monday fired their head coach after another disappointing start to the season, according to multiple reports.
NFL Media later reported that offensive coordinator Todd Haley has also been relieved of his duties.
Their exits come after reports of a power struggle for control of the offense between Jackson and Haley that the organisation feared rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield was being dragged into.
A Yahoo reported noted team owner Jimmy Haslam “was leaning toward staying course” with the two coaches but general manager John Dorsey insisted the “dynamic couldn’t continue.”
Jackson has been at the helm since 2016 but sealed his fate with a 33-18 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday as the team dropped to 2-5-1 on the season. He was 3-36-1 in his two-plus seasons as head coach, the Browns infamously going 0-16 last year.
Haley joined the Browns in January after spending the previous six seasons in Pittsburgh.
The Browns host the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
